- The group said its members were declaring their total support for Senator Omo-Agege's deputy Senate presidency ambition

- According to the group, no other senator, but Omo-Agege was more qualified to become the deputy Senate president of the 9th Senate

The Urhobo ethnic nationality of Delta Central Senatorial District have declared their total support for Senator Ovie Omo-Agege's deputy Senate president ambition.

The group made the declaration on Sunday, June 3, in a communique issued after a press conference and support meeting held at the PTI Conference Centre, Effurun, Delta state.

Presenting the communique, the vice chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Adelabu Bodjor, called on all Urhobos and senators-elect from other ethnic groups and geo-political zones to support Omo-Agege’s bid at the 9th Senate.

Chiding the Urhobo Political Group, which he described as non-Urhobos, for attempting to betray the collective interest and truncate the destiny of the entire Urhobos at the coming Senate, Bodjor said some 'gangsters' are being sponsored by some politcial enemies.

Badjor said: “We have just discovered that a handful of gangsters, who are unarguably sponsored by the enemies of Urhobo, has gone on air to declare support for an Igbo senator contesting for the same post."

"Their move to support an Igbo Senator for the position that’s already in the kitty of the Urhobo nation is wicked, mischievous and unpatriotic,” the APC chieftain said.

Surrounded by eminent personalities which cut across ethnic and religious divides during the meeting, Badjor affirmed that the APC has zoned the deputy Senate president slot to the south south geo-political zone.

He said no other senator, but Omo-Agege was more qualified to become the deputy Senate president of the 9th Senate

“We must, for all intent and purposes, emphasise that the Senate seat and, by extension, the accompanying office of the Deputy Senate President, are not for Senator Omo-Agege as a person.

“That seat is for Urhobo nation who voted massively for the senator to represent them in the Senate,” the people affirmed.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Omo-Agege had said that he is the most qualified candidate for the office of the deputy senate president at the 9th Senate.

Omo-Agege who is currently participating in a two-week induction programme being organised by the National Assembly management for members and senators- elect at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja said he will soon declare for the office of the deputy senate president following calls and support from colleagues for the position.

The Senator said bearing in mind that the position for the DSP has been zoned to the south south by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which controls majority in the Senate, he would want to use he opportunity to restore the greatness of the Nigerian government.
