Antonio Conte had reportedly made his intentions known to bring Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic to Inter Milan.
The Croatia international who previously had a two-year spell with the San Siro giants before joining Real Madrid and has since struggled.
The 26-year-old was on a season long loan at Stamford Bridge last season with Chelsea looking for a means in extending his deal.
But according to Italian news media outlet Tuttosport, Conte has made Kovacic's return to the Serie a priority.

Maurizio Sarri recently revealed that he wish to make the midfielder remain in the Premier League amid rumours of a £26million option to buy.
However, the former Dinamo Zagreb star may favour a return to the San Siro, where he spent two years before his big-money move to Spain.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Maurizio Sarri representative has told Chelsea that he wants to leave the club after having a meeting with club's chief in Italy, Sky Sports reports.
