Serve people or quit politics - Ohanaeze to Igbo governors

- Governors and politicians in Igboland have been urged to serve the people or quit politics

- Ohanaeze Ndigbo also warned the governors to avoid looting public funds

- The group added that the people must also watch their elected officials and make sure they do not act illegally

An Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has tasked governors and politicians in Igboland to serve the people diligently or quit from politics.

The spokesman of the group, Chuks Ibegbu, also warned the governors against looting public funds, while also charging the people to watch their elected officials, The Nation reports.

In the same vein, the leadership of the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) also called on the governors not to forget the campaign promises they made.

The coalition in a press release on Saturday, June 1, asked the southeast governors to imbibe the character of Dr Nnamidi Azikwe, Dr Michael Okpara, Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu-Ojukwu who were all rendered selfless.

The release, signed by the Chief Gooduck Egwu Ibem, the president general of the coalition, asked the governors to implement pogrammes that are people centred across various states.

He said: “We advise all of them to go back to history and emulate legends like our founding fathers: Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dr. Michael Okpara, Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu-Ojukwu and De Sam Mbakwe in rendering selfless services to the did not end people.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the Igbo socio-cultural group criticised President Muhammadu Buhari for attending the Organisation of Islamic Countries meeting in Saudi Arabia after his swearing-in ceremony for a second term.

The apex Igbo group in a statement signed by its deputy national publicity secretary said the president owed the nation an explanation.

The group also criticised the majority leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila for attending the lesser Hajj claiming he changed his religion from for political reasons.
