No fewer than six suspected militia have reportedly lost their lives while vandalizing and looting a church in Ayu town in Wukari local government area of Taraba state.
Daily Trust reports that Ayu town, which is a Tiv community and located in the midst of Jukun villages, came under attack by suspected militia.
The Tiv in the community allegedly killed and chased away the invading militia who looted and vandalized a church in the area.
The president of Tiv cultural association in Taraba state, Goodman Dahida, said the militia had also attacked several other Tiv community, vandalized churches and carted away properties worth millions of Naira.
Dahida said: “As am talking to you several Tivs villages in Donga and Takum local government areas were burnt down and property including farm produce and animals carted away by the militia.”
He said several Tiv including women and children have fled the areas.
When contacted, the police spokesman of Taraba state command, David Misal, said he was not informed of the incident.
Recall that Legit.ng reported that the Nigerian Army confirmed the arrest of two suspected members of a militia gang allegedly terrorising residents of Katsina Ala in Benue and its environs.
The state had for many months suffered various clashes between farmers and alleged herdsmen resulting in killings and destruction of properties.
The successful outing of the soldiers, according to Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, the director Army public relations, followed a tip-off.
