The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has paid the sum of N5 million to settle the various fines of some prisoners at Kurmawa and Goron Dutse prisons to get their release.
The Emir, while speaking during his Ramadan visit, urged the inmates to see their jail term as the will of God for them to learn their lessons, The Nation reports.
Sanusi asked them to reflect on their stay and use the remaining Ramadan period to seek Allah’s forgiveness and intervention.
The traditional ruler also asked the inmates to avoid anything that could take them back to where they just came out from.
Aliyu Yahuza, the acting comptroller of Kano state prisons, described the monarch’s visit as a clear marker that he was concerned about his subjects.
The comptroller also said that the prisons are very committed to empowering the inmates in various vocational skills.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that new details emerged of alleged infractions by the Emir of Kano which led to some drastic actions by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Similarly, the state's anti-corruption agency of the government reopened an investigation into the finances of the Kano Emirate Council, the body overseeing the state’s traditional institutions, headed by Emir Sanusi.
According to reports, officials close to the state governor disclosed that in the run-up to the governorship election in the state, Emir Sanusi met about five times with the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and Ganduje’s main challenger and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf.
