There is currently tension within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state over who gets what in the second term of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Chieftains of the party are at logger heads specifically over the ministerial appointment due to the state.
While former governor Godswill Akpabio and the party leadership in the state are on one side, elders and prominent chieftains on the Akwa Ibom APC are in another camp.
Legit.ng gathered that the situation has further polarised the party which had already been weakened by the monumental defeat it suffered in the hands of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2019 general elections.
Last week, APC leaders in Akwa Ibom state wrote a protest letter to President Buhari, rejecting the listing of Akpabio for ministerial appointment.
The APC leaders said that such appointment is an invitation to crisis in the state, stressing that the poor performance of APC in Akwa Ibom state in the last general election was largely due to the destabilising and authoritarian tendencies of Akpabio.
Reacting, Akwa Ibom state working committee of the APC in a statement by its publicity secretary, Nkereuwem Enyongekere, stated that the group was not known to the party in the state.
Part of the statement read: “The party warns such non-existent group claiming to be an affiliate of APC in the state to desist forthwith from such engagement, as there is no provision in the APC constitution that grants such power(s) to anyone or group to dabble into the function which is solely the prerogative of the state working committee of the APC in Akwa Ibom.”

Meanwhile, outgoing ministers and state governors elected on the platform of the APC are said to be intensifying their battle of wits to make their way into the next cabinet of President Buhari.
Many of the ministers are keen to return, even as some of the outgoing governors who want to move to the federal level are also making political moves to get into the cabinet.
