- The governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed who chose the House leader, Femi Gbajabiamila for the speaker of 9th House of Assembly
- Governor El-Rufai said that it was President Muhammadu Buhari who chose Gbajabiamila for the position
- El-Rufai said that the House leader was chosen due to his experience and industrious nature in legislative duties
Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna on Friday, May 31, said has made clarification as to who actually chose the House leader, Femi Gbajabiamila for the speaker of 9th House of Assembly.
El-Rufai said that contrary to popular opinion, it was President Muhammadu Buhari who made the choice, not the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Daily Trust reports.
The governor went on to say that Gbajabiamila was chosen based on his experience and industrious nature in legislative affairs.
He said: “There was a misconception that Femi’s candidature was from Bola Tinubu but the fact is that it was President Muhammadu Buhari himself who chose him because of his commitment and dedication to legislative duties. The President told me because I was not in Nigeria when he took the decision.
“Some of our colleagues raised some misgivings but it’s just a matter of working chemistry, whom you can work it comfortably; not competence or whatever.
“The last four years in the National Assembly have taught us bitter lessons about working chemistry, and here in Kaduna State, I take part in choosing who becomes the Speaker of the State Assembly. So, I told the President that he must be involved in the process this time around.
”Kaduna State believes in Buhari’s words, and I assure you that there would be no contest on June 11 when the leadership of the National Assembly would be inaugurated.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Abdulmuminin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Bebeji/Kiru federal constituency of Kano state in the House of Representatives, has said that Gbajabiamila would emerge the next speaker of the House.
Jibrin stated this on Monday, April 8, while appearing on Politics Today, ahead of the inauguration of the ninth Assembly in June.
