A pressure group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) identified as Urhobo Political Group has endorsed senator-elect for Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, for the position of deputy Senate president in ninth Senate.

The group made the decision through a unanimous voice vote during its meeting held at Ughelli, Delta state.

According to the coordinator of the group, Jerry Uloho, the senator-elect was endorsed because of his integrity and track record of performance while he held sway as governor of Abia state, The Sun reports.

Legit.ng notes that Uloho said: “Orji Kalu is cool headed and a personality whose character is not in doubt. We are not comfortable with having a rascal and controversial figure that would rubbish the image of the senate and the country, at large, in the eyes of the global community.

“If Orji Kalu becomes the deputy senate president, everybody will sleep, heavens will not destroy heavens. His promotion will not be a punishment to fellow Nigerians and, with Orji Kalu, not only the South South and South East, but the entire nation would be comfortable."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Senator-elect and former governor of Abia state, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, endorsed the candidature of the Senate leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan, for the position of the Senate president in the incoming 9th National Assembly.

Kalu endorsed the Yobe senator when the latter visited him in his Abuja home to seek his support ahead of the election.

Kalu who traced his relationship with Lawan back to their school days as room mates at the University of Maiduguri, urged Lawan to lead the 9th Senate well if elected.
