The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo has said the new governor of the state, Seyi Makinde is already behaving like a military dictator following his dissolution of local government councils.

Makinde dissolved the local government councils immediately after his swearing in as the governor of the state.

The chairman of the APC in the state, Akin Oke, described Makinde’s decision to dissolve the councils as dictatorial.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oke, who spoke in a telephone interview, described Makinde’s action as 'military- like'.

He expressed shock by the development saying: “My party, the APC will react officially soon, but I will speak to you as an individual for now.

“We are not in the military era. In the first instance, here is a man who swore to defend the constitution, few hours later, acting with impunity, acting in military style dissolving democratic institutions like local government councils.”

Oke noted that the state House of Assembly has not been constituted and even the Chief of Staff who signed the statement on behalf of the governor had not been sworn in.

“This development is a very bad signal, very bad signal for good people, with this administration, we are in for problems, real problems in the state,” he added.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday, May 29, said the state cannot pay the new national minimum wage of N30,000 just signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Makinde said all states are not created equal, so it is against the principle of fairness to apply a blanket rule to govern them all.

The governor made the disclosures while giving his inaugural address at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan as 8th civilian governor.
