- Philomina Chise and five JAMB officials have been charged to court by the EFCC over N35 million fraud
- During interrogation, Chise had claimed that a mysterious snake swallowed the cash arising from sale of e-JAMB cards
- The fraud had been discovered when forensic evidence came up with N8.7 billion shortfall during their investigation
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will on Friday, May 31, charge to court a controversial official of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Philomina Chishe and five others over N35 million fraud.
Chishe was reported to have told the anti-graft agency that snake swallowed the money in question, The Nation reports.
The other suspects facing corruption charges are Samuel Umoru, Yakubu Jekada, Daniel Agbo, Priscilla Ogunsola, and Aliyu Yakubu.
The five officials of the board will be facing trail before Justice Peter Afen of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja.
A part of the case brief read: “Philomena, who is a JAMB official in Benue State, became popular when she made an outlandish claim that a mysterious snake swallowed about N35million cash arising from sale of e-JAMB cards in the state.
“The controversial JAMB official is being prosecuted by the EFCC on an eight-count charge, following her refusal to furnish the management of JAMB the true information on the financial status of JAMB e-cards supplied to the Benue Zonal office between 2014 and 2016.
“Instead of Philomena rendering account on the said N35million, being the shortfall of unremitted e-JAMB cards in connivance with other officials, she claimed that a mysterious snake swallowed the money.”
Another document by the EFCC also revealed how the fraud was discovered saying that the forensic evidence came up with N8.7 billion shortfall during their investigation.

Recall that Chise had denied the "mysterious snake" report, saying the exam body only made up the story to cover up for the disappearance of the money.
Chise speaking during an interview conducted by CNN, accused JAMB of turning her in to authorities, who she claims still haven't questioned her about the missing funds.
