President Muhammadu Buhari is holding an important closed-door meeting with northern governors over the insecurity in the region.
Daily Trust reports that the meeting which is taking place today, Monday, May 27, started around 12:30pm at the council chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
As at the time the meeting started, the governors in attendance are: Kashim Shettima of Borno, Simon Lalong of Plateau, Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Aminu Bello Masari of Katisna, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger and Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara.
President Buhari had earlier met with south south monarchs before his meeting with the northern governors commenced. The meeting started at 11.37am at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Details of the meeting is still unknown.
Meanwhile, Northern Governors Forum held a meeting at the Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna to discuss the security challenges affecting the region.
Governors of Kano, Katsina, Borno, Plateau and deputies of Bauchi, Sokoto and Benue and the host governor of Kaduna were at the Government House, venue of the meeting. The governors converged at the host governor’s office behind closed doors as they waited for others to arrive for the meeting.
