Lionel Messi, Pique, Suarez hold crisis talk after Copa del Rey defeat

Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez held a meeting inside the team bus, moments after their Copa del Rey final defeat by Valencia.

According to The Mirror citing AS, the trio set about seeking solutions after their latest poor show, weeks after Liverpool defeat in the Champions League.

Messi, who also doubles as club captain, led the group of peace-makers that held talks inside bus from the Estadio Benito Villamarin in Seville to the airport.

The report further revealed that the pair of Suarez and Pique played a huge role during the meeting, which reportedly got so intense that most of the players remained on board after reaching their destination to finish their discussions.

The La Liga champions are keen to add more quality to the squad and get back to winning ways and challenge for top European honours.

At the last count, Barcelona won the La Liga title as Real Madrid suffered a poor run, but Barca’s failure in the UCL and Copa del Rey Cup have further raised doubts about the capability of manager Ernesto Valverde.

Messi and other squad members appear to drum support for Valvarde as the best man to help Barca return to winning ways and European dominance.

The Argentine playmaker admitted that players should be held responsible for the defeat at Anfield not the coach.

"I think the coach has done an impressive job," said Messi.

"I think in that elimination against Liverpool, he is practically blameless. We are the only ones to blame for that match.

"It was unfortunate the match we played, the image we left behind."

Interestingly, Barcelona were surprised by Valencia in the Copa del Rey final, falling 2-0 down with goals from Kevin Gameiro and Rodrigo and could not recover despite Messi's second half goal.

The performance ended Barcelona's run of four straight Copa del Rey victories as well as their hopes of a domestic treble.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported Valencia are the 2019 Copa Del Rey champions following their 2-1 win over Barcelona at the Estadio Benito Villamarin on Saturday, May 25.

The victory means that coach Ernesto Valverde were denied a chance to win a domestic double for the second season running.
