Katsina emirate suspends Sallah Durbar festivities over bandit attacks

- The Katsina emirate council says it would morn victims of recent bandit attacks in some communities in the state

- The emirates information officer, Alhaji Ibrahim Bindawa, discloses that special prayers would be held after the Eid prayer for sustainable peace in the state and the country at large

- The statement by the Katsina emirate council is in response to a recent bandits attack on communities which led to the killing of many people

The Katsina emirate council says it would not hold the usual Sallah Durbar during the forthcoming Eid Fitr to morn victims of recent bandit attack in some communities in the state.

The emirates information officer, Alhaji Ibrahim Bindawa, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, May 25, in Katsina, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

“His Royal Highness, the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir has directed me to inform the people of the state that following bandit attacks in some communities in the state, the usual Sallah Durbar will not hold during the Eid Fitr celebration,” Bindawa said.

He said however, that special prayers would be held after the Eid prayer for sustainable peace in the state and the country at large.

Bandits had attacked communities including Batsari, Danmusa and Kankara killing many people.

Meanwhile, as part of effort to control menace of kidnapping and rustling in the state, Katsina State Government has reviewed punishment for the offenses to death sentences.

Governor Aminu Masari disclosed this while assenting to amended Penal Code and Administration of Criminal Justice Law on Friday in Katsina

He said the laws were revisited as the state was being confronted with security challenges and the need to deal with any suspect that may be found wanting.
