States can survive without FG’s assistance - President Buhari

- State governors have been challenged by President Buhari to utilise resources in their states to create development

- The president said any governor who is creative enough will know their state does not need assistance from the federal government

- Buhari said all states are viable enough and can stand without the central government's support

President Muhammadu Buhari has charged state governors to utitlise the resources in their states for development instead of coming to beg the federal government for help.

Buhari said that governors who can think hard enough will transform their states without any assistance from the federal government because all the states in the nations are strong enough, Leadership reports.

The president said his administration has been generous enough to state governors and added that any governor honest enough will know that their state is sufficient enough without needing help.

While clearly referring to the various bailouts the government has given to the governors in recent times to pay salaries, the president said that the governors need to be self-reliant.

President Buhari made his known in Owerri, Imo state capital, when he commissioned the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport.

Represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the president said that he was glad for what some state executives have done in building their state.

The president said: “The federal government and indeed the All Progressives Congress (APC) family are proud of you. By what you have achieved, it is possible for governors to develop their respective states without looking for assistance from the federal government.”

The president also congratulated Governor Okorocha for taking the initiative to create more jobs through the building of the airport, adding that Nigerians need to be proud of the world class facility.

The Imo governor also thanked the federal governor for supporting the state in giving approval to the project.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Okorocha lamented over his treatment by the leadership of the ruling APC.

Okorocha who has been at loggerhead with some senior members of the party, said he wondered if all he did for the APC was worth it.
