Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers has thrown his weight behind Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who is contesting for speaker of the House of Representatives in the ninth National Assembly.
Wike, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received Gbajabiamila/Wase campaign team at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, May 22, Daily Trust reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the governor said said he is supporting Gbajabiamila because of the latter's capacity, Daily Trust reports.
Wike said: ”I don’t support you based on party lines; I support you based on capacity.
“When you get there, we must work as a people; party is just a vehicle to convey you to your political destination.
“Party line is the major reason why Nigeria has not made any progress. It was the reason why our Electoral Act was not assented to.
The governor called on Gbajabiamila to put Nigeria first if he emerges speaker of the House of Representatives in the ninth National Assembly on June 10.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Abdulmuminin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Bebeji/Kiru federal constituency of Kano state in the House of Representatives, said that Femi Gbajabiamila would emerge the next speaker of the House.
Jibrin said he was confident that nothing would stop Gbajabiamila from becoming the next speaker of the House of Representatives.
He said: “I am not afraid. I have said it repeatedly and you can take this to the bank In sha Allah (God willing) Femi Gbajabiamila is going to be the speaker. It is as good as that."
Jibrin, who was elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said he was also confident that other APC lawmakers contesting for leadership position would win.
