President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, May 22, presided over the valedictory session for members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the state house.
It should be noted that was the last meeting with the FEC members marking the end of Buhari’s first term.
The president said some very significant things to the outgoing cabinet ministers in his closing remarks.
Here are nine things the president said:
1. We delivered our campaign promises
Buhari told the outgoing ministers that they all worked hard to deliver their campaign promises in the three and half years they worked together
2. I acknowledge the inputs of council member who resigned
The president said he appreciates the effort of council members who resigned before the completion of their tenure
3. We inherited a broken economy
Buhari also said that his administration inherited a broken economy which worsened by the increasing cases of insecurity and massive corruption.
4. You all are skillful
Buhari also commended his ministers for being skillful in all their respective capacities, adding that they are a reflection of a perfect Nigeria.
5. You should all be proud of your achievements
He told the outgoing members that they all should be proud for what they have achieved so far, especially in developing the economic recovery and growth plan
6. James Ocholi was a true patriot
Buhari also remembered the late James Ocholi (SAN) who lost his life in an accident. He said Ocholi was a true patriot of the country.
7. Our heated arguments during meeting helped us
The president said the argument they had during all their meetings helped them to make more sound decisions whenever they met.
8. Your skill made me retain all of you for a full term
He said the sterling performance of his cabinet member made him retain them during his full term in office.
9. I respect all the silent partners of my cabinet
Buhari said he recognises the silent partners of his cabinet who are the ministers’ spouses, wives, families and friends who supported them.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the Kwara South elders forum of the All Progressive Congress (APC) opposed the reappointment of Lai Mohammed, the minister for information and culture.
The APC’s forum said they need a change for the nomination of minister from Kwara south, adding that the minister performed way below their expectation.
