The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Yinka Farounbi and Adeshina Ogunlana, two former chairmen of the Nigerian Bar Association.
The NBA chairmen were arraigned before an Ikeja special offences court, Lagos for allegedly stealing N42.8 million
They were arraigned alongside a former treasurer of the NBA, Aderinola Kappo.
According to the EFCC, the former NBA leaders stole monies belonging to the association.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the EFCC Ilorin zonal office had commenced investigations into the alleged illegal payment of about N400 million to some members of the Kwara state House of Assembly and the state executive council members.
A statement signed by the commission’s spokesperson, Tony Orilade, and made available in Ilorin on Tuesday, May 21, said the clerk was being interrogated over the alleged payment which did not follow due process.
Also, in a related development, Legit.ng reported that the clerk of the Kwara House of Assembly, Kperogi Jummai, was arrested by the EFCC over alleged illegal payment of about N400 million to some members of the House.
The EFCC, in a statement said: “It was gathered that all the 25 lawmakers and some members of the state executive council two weeks ago received about N400 million severance gratuity before the expiration of their tenure. This is in spite of the fact that the state is owing workers about three months salaries."
