- Kylian Mbappe was persuaded to remain at PSG by former manager Unai Emery
- The France star was keen on joining Real Madrid last summer after a loan spell at PSG
- Mbappe is now being linked with a move to Spanish capital this summer
French star Kylian Mbappé preferred a switch from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid, not Barcelona, says former PSG manager Unai Emery.
According to AS.com citing Cadena SER, the French World Cup winner has been repeatedly linked with La Liga giants Real Madrid, moments after the PSG star hinted about the possibility of moving on for a "new project".
But Ligue 1 champions PSG waved off Mbappé's comments, stressing that the former Monaco star, who emerged the best player in Ligue 1 in the 2018-18 campaign will not be leaving Paris this summer.
However, Arsenal manager Emery says Mbappé was convinced to remain at PSG despite his desire to join Madrid during his spell at PSG, which came to an end after the 2017-18 campaign before joining Arsenal.
The 19-year-old Mbappe at that time just sealed a season-long loan with PSG from Monaco netting 21 times across all competitions.
According to Emery, the French champions had the option to sign Mbappe permanently, which they did, but the youngster is bent on moving to Real Madrid still.
“At some point, everyone pushed at PSG,” Emery was quoted as saying to Cadena SER. "I even talked to him and his father to stay.
“He wanted to choose Real Madrid, he also had a chance at Barcelona, but he wanted Madrid eyes closed.
“Among everybody we convinced him about the project in France and made him stay. We had to set money over the table, and that's what we did.”
Interestingly, PSG splashed out about £166m to seal the deal permanently, but Mbappe is now with a switch to the Spanish capital again.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Kylian Mbappe has revealed his future does not lie with PSG during French football awards suggesting he might be moving on during the summer window.
According to Daily Mail, the French World Cup winner while accepting the Ligue 1 player of the year award, admitted that despite claiming the prestigious price, he was not able to achieve some set goals.
“Of course there have been lots of disappointment this season but that is part of football."
