Man United set to make Pogba captain to keep Real Madrid off

- Man United are considering to make Paul Pogba their captain for next season

- Former captain Antonio Valencia has left the club after his contract ended

- Ashley Young is also in line to emerge skipper after signing a 12-month extension

Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will offer Paul Pogba another chance to become captain in a bid to keep him at Old Trafford.

Antonio Valencia's departure at the club means that Solskjaer will pick a new skipper for next season's campaign.

And it is understood that the Norwegian is willing to make the World Cup winner the new leader of his team with hope of convincing the Frenchman to stay at United.

England international, Ashley Young is favourite to wear the arms-band having signed a 12-month contract extension at the Theatre of Dreams.

But Solskjaer is keen to sign a new right-back this summer, which could limit Young's chances of making his starting XI next season.

Pogba was stripped off the captaincy by former manager Jose Mourinho following a string of row between the duo.

However Solskjaer's relationship with Pogba have been cordial and the Norwegian hopes the club's responsibility will help end speculation about the 25-year-old's future.

Pogba has come under huge criticisms this season for failing to help Man United qualify into the Champions League.

He has been linked with a move to join fellow countryman Zinedine Zidane at Madrid with two years left in his current deal at Old Trafford.

And United are adamant that the former Juventus midfielder will not be sold at any price.

Meanwhile, had earlier reported that Manchester United are reportedly close to landing Swansea winger Daniel James in a £15 million deal this summer.
