Olivier Giroud signs new 1 year contract extension to remain at Chelsea till next summer

- Olivier Giroud finally ends Chelsea exit rumours after penning a new one year deal until 2020

- The Frenchman's initial contract ran out with the recently concluded season

- Giroud was rewarded with a new deal after helping them reach the Europa League final having scored ten times in the process

Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud has signed a new one year contract with his Premier League side until the summer of 2020.

The 32-year-old was instrumental to the Blues success in the Europa League this campaign after scoring 10 goals from 13 appearances in the competition.

Having helped the Stamford Bridge side reach the final of UEFA's second tier championship as they hope to wrap the 2018-19 season with silverware.

The London based club have however rewarded his contribution to the club by giving him a new contract which will keep him at the club till the end of next season.

Giroud joined Chelsea in the January of 2018 and has so far made 62 appearances and scored 17 goals.

Shortly after moving to Stamford Bridge last year, the Frenchman won the FIFA World Cup with his country in Russia.

Giroud after signing his contract extension said: "I am very happy to sign a new contract. I really wanted to stay at least one more year - I have felt a part of the team, the family, since the beginning and hopefully there will be more trophies to come."

Meanwhile, the club's director Marina Granovskaia insisted they are pleased with the news of the attacker extending his stay for another season.

"We are very pleased that Olivier will be a Chelsea player for another season. Since joining us 18 months ago, he has at times had to be patient and wait for opportunities, but has still been able to make a positive contribution to the team.

"Whether it is his unselfish link-up play or his 10 Europa League goals this season, he has been a crucial member of the squad and we hope he will be able to pick up a second Chelsea winner’s medal in Baku later this month to accompany last season’s FA Cup win."

Legit.ng earlier reported that Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is not happy playing second fiddle at Stamford Bridge and wants more playing time at the club next season.

The Frenchman joined the Blues from Arsenal in January 2018 and his current deal expires at the end of this season.

Giroud started just seven Premier League games this season and he has admitted to being unhappy with his current role on several occasions.
