- Abubakar Bawa Bwari said federal government is giving priority to mining sector in the country
According to the minister of mines and steel development, development in the sector will help to increase the ministry’s contribution to GDP

Federal government said growth and development in Nigerian mining sector will help create more jobs and increase the ministry’s contribution to the gross domestc product.
Daily Trust reports that Abubakar Bawa Bwari, minister of mines and steel development, made this known when he received a mining team from Standard Bank and Stanbic led by Mark Buncombe in the ministry on Thursday, May 16.
Bwari said: “We have the minerals in quality and quantity. We have 44 minerals across the country and the government is giving priority to the sector now.”
He said like in cement production were Nigeria was self-sufficient, the same would be achieved in carbonate, phosphate and others.
The minister said although mining in Nigeria was still at the small scale and artisanal levels, Nigeria would soon be seen as the mining destination of the world.
The leader of the Standard Bank and Stanbic IBTC delegation, Mark Buncombe, said they were in the ministry to seek ways of partnering with government and finding areas of investment in the sector.
He said their team would work out areas where they could invest in the sector. Similarly, the minister received a delegation from the Moroccan mining team, OCP Group Africa, Nigeria, led by the MD, Muhammed Hettit.
Recall that Legit.ng reported that the federal government said it had discovered high quality of platinum group elements in a village in Niger.
The minister of state, mines and steel development, announced this on Monday, April 7, at the groundbreaking ceremony of AG vision mining site in Suleja local government area of the state. Bwari said that the large mineral deposit was discovered at Kuchiko village in Suleja.
Bwari added that the quality of the discovery was higher than that of South Africa, regarded as the highest deposit of the mineral in the world.
