Frank Lampard’s tutored-side Derby County are closing in on a return to the Premier League after securing their spot in the Championship play-off final with a 4-2 win (winning 4-3 on aggregate) over Leeds United at Elland Road.
Derby County lost the first leg of the semi-final tie 1-0 at Pride Park, but returned to winning ways on Wednesday, May 15 after suffering an early setback due to Stuart Dallas goal in the 24th minute.
But Derby scored three times through Jack Marriott (45), Mason Mount (46) and a Harry Wilson penalty (58) to go ahead in the contest.
Dallas netted his second on the night to level proceedings in the 62nd minute, but Gaetano Berardi late red card saw Derby stage a comeback into the game, with Marriott executing a clever chip in the 85th minute to ensure Derby secured a 4-3 aggregate win.
Lampard’s side will now square up against Aston Villa, who defeated West Brom in the other semi-final pairing in the final at Wembley on Monday, May 27.
But they will miss the services of Scott Malone after late red card at Elland Road.
