- Three villages in Katsina state have been attacked by unknown gunmen
- About 20 people reportedly lost their lives in the night attack
- The bandits also rustled the animal of the victims
Unknown gunmen have reportedly launched a night attack in three villages in Kankara local government area of Katsina state resulting in the death of 20 people.
Daily Trust reports that the affected villages are Dan Marke Z, Dan Sabau and Karya and they share borders with Zamfara state.
Anas Isa who is the transition management committee chairman of the council confirmed the attack on Wednesday, May 15.
He said the gunmen opened fire on the villagers before rustling their animals. He described the attacks as regrettable “especially during this holy month.”
“We held a security meeting even today (yesterday) where we resolved to meet with the state government to further intimate them on the situation.
“The thing is for just to go and enter this forest and confront them face to face, is the way out. The bandits are more in number than the security operatives on ground and moreover, the terrain of being a rocky zone with no good roads before the security reaches them, they have concluded the operation, so it’s just to confront them squarely."
Gambo Isah who is the spokesperson of the state police command said the issue will be investigated.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, blamed the violence and banditry in the country on the embittered politicians who lost in the last general elections.

Buratai said this on Wednesday, May 15, during the visit paid to the Army by thee House of Representatives Committee at the military’s Headquarters of the Theatre Command Operation Lafiya in Maiduguri, Bornu state.
