Gernot Rohr invites Mikel Obi, 24 others in 2019 Nations Cup provisional list

- Gernot Rohr has called 25-man squad to camp ahead of the 2019 Nations Cup

- Mikel Obi has made a return to the Super Eagles after being out for 10 months

- Six players are also on standby ahead of the 2019 AFCON which will hold in Egypt

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr on Tuesday evening, May 14, listed John Obi Mikel and 24 other Super Eagles stars in his provisional squad ahead of the 2019 Nations Cup in Egypt.

Mikel Obi will now be making a return to the Super Eagles squad after missing out in action for his country since Nigeria's elimination at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia..

Striker Ahmed Musa who has been Mikel Obi's deputy is also on the list alongside Odion Ighalo, Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon.

In goal, Francis Uzoho will face competition from Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi for who to handle the post for Nigeria at the Nations Cup.

Meanwhile, six players have been placed on standby list by Gernot Rohr in case any of these players invited get injured.

The six players on standby are Theophilus Afelokhai, Bryan Idowu, Ikouwem Utin, Mikel Agu, Junior Ajayi, and Valentine Ozornwafor.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Mikel Obi who is the captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria confirmed his readiness to travel with the Nigerian team to Egypt for the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

This comes after meeting head coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr who had a chat with the former Chelsea star ahead of the Nations Cup.

Mikel has not played for the Super Eagles of Nigeria since after the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia where Nigeria were sent out of the championship after losing their last Group game against Argentina.
