2nd term: Reward for loyalty is essential - Anyanwu tells Buhari

- President Muhammadu Buhari has been advised to reward loyalty to the APC when choosing his next set of appointees

- The advice was given to the president by a member of the National Executive Committee of the APC, Hon. Nduka Anyanwu

- The party chieftain said the move will ensure that the APC consolidates on the gains it made in the last general elections

A member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Nduka Anyanwu has reiterated the need for President Muhammadu Buhari to, while considering competence look inward for loyal party members who can play a vital role in his next cabinet.

Hon Anyanwu said this during his interaction on Tuesday, May 14 with journalists in Abuja in reaction to a question on whether loyalty should be a factor in the next set of appointments.

Anyanwu who is the south-east national ex-Officio of the APC, appreciated President Buhari's efforts in ensuring that the south-east region was not left out in terms of infrastructural development in his first term which is gradually coming to an end.

He, however, urged the president to factor in the need to reward loyalty while considering his next set of ministers and appointees.

Anyanwu was of the opinion that the APC as a party having established itself as a party of progressives, and having been built on the sweat, consistency and perseverance of loyal party men and women, must ensure that consistent members who have kept the party afloat are appreciated and given higher responsibilities which include the privilege to serve the nation.

He noted that the just concluded election provided the opportunity for followers of the party in the south-east region to highlight many of the good works the president have done for the people of the region.

This according to him has grown the support of the APC in the region and had provided an avenue for the party to further make an inroad into the region.

“In Abia north local government where I come from, we had to really stamp our foot on the ground to ensure that Mr President got good number of votes in the state, this was made possible by the efforts we put in as true believers in Mr President's agenda, combined with the good works Mr president had done in the state which we used as a tool to convince our people to vote for Mr President,” he said.

Anyanwu expressed confidence that President Buhari would reward loyalty as he selects his next set of appointees.

He said the move will ensure that the APC in states like Abia, consolidates on the gains it made in the last general elections and further ensure that the party while meeting the expectations of Nigerians, continues to thrive in the south-east region.

Meanwhile, the APC has cautioned party members, supporters and the general public on the fake news being spread in the social media on the upcoming Kogi and Bayelsa state governorship elections.
