Nuhu Ribadu, pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Tuesday, May 14, represented President Buhari at the proceedings of the presidential election petition tribunal in Abuja.
Reports claimed that one of the parties that contested on Saturday, February 23 presidential election, Hope Democratic Party and its candidate, Ambrose Awuru, filed a petition before the tribunal challenging President Buhari’s victory at the poll.
Also, the APC was represented by Dare Oketade, who identified himself as the party’s head of legal services.
The independent national electoral commission, was represented by its director, legal services, Oluwatoyin Babalola, while Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) led Buhari’s legal team, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) led APC’s team of lawyers.
There are three other petitions filed by other political parties, including the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Legit.ng reported that some staff of the Peoples Democratic Party urged the president of Court of Appeal who is also a member of presidential election petitions tribunal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, to excuse herself from the tribunal.
It was reported that PDP staff who protested at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata House, Abuja on Monday, May 13, passed a vote of no confidence on the tribunal as long as Justice Bulkachuwa remained a member.
