Senate on Tuesday, May 14, commenced the confirmation of the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, for second term of office.
This is coming 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari met with Emefiele at the Presidential Villa, Abuja following his re-appointment for another five-year term.
President Buhari’s request for the confirmation of Emefiele has been referred to the Senate banking and insurance committee for legislative action.
Senate president, Bukola Saraki, read a letter from the president reappointing CBN governor for a second term during plenary on Thursday, May 9.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported the meeting between President Buhari and the CBN governor at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday, May 13.
According to a statement released by Lauretta Onochie, a presidential aide, through her Twitter page, President Buhari congratulated Emefiele over his re-appointment for another five-year term.
The president also had separate meetings with Governors Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state, Samuel Ortom, Benue, and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna behind closed doors.
Ambode told State House correspondents that he was in the villa to thank the president for his visit to Lagos state in April where he inaugurated several projects.
On his part, Ortom disclosed that he updated the president on the current security situation in Benue.
