UNN final year student battling mental illness drops teary suicide note before ending life

Chukwuemeka Akachi, a final year English student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka has killed himself after losing a prolong battle with mental illness.

Akachi, who was a poet, wrote two suicide notes on his Facebook page few hours before he took the poison that led to his death on May 13, 2019.

In fact, it would appear that when he dropped the first note, many tried to dissuade him from his plan. But in a second note, he told them once and for all that his mind was made up - he was going to end it.

Quite a number of Nigerians who are aware of his death have not been able to get over and they have flooded his page with messages, lamenting the loss.

By going through his posts, it became apparent to many that Emeka actually had a mental illness which he had been struggling with for a long while. His suicidal act was the brutal consequence of his unwillingness to keep fighting the 'demons' torturing his mind.
