Soon, we will have a reason to rejoice on your behalf - Nigerians react as Leah Sharibu clocks 16

Leah Sharibu who was one of the girls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in Dapchi has clocked 16 years in detention and Nigerians have taken to social media to send their congratulations.

Leah was one of the more than 100 girls abducted from their school, Government Girls' Science and Technical College by the terrorists in Dapchi, Yobe state.

While other girls were ultimately, released, Leah was held back for reportedly refusing to renounce her Christianity faith.

On Tuesday, May 14, Nigerians took to social media to celebrate her birthday. While many prayed for her safe return, others used the opportunity to charge the federal government to intensify effort to rescue to young school girl.

Meanwhile, as part of the steps put in place to fast track the release of Leah Sharibu, prayer vigils have been set up by hundreds of people at Nigeria’s mission house in the United Kingdom and United States.

There would also be an event at the US Senate building on Capitol Hill today, Tuesday, May 14, in Washington. Leah would be marking her 16th birthday today after spending 449 days in captivity, Vanguard reports.
