Markus Ishaku Basiran, an assistant commissioner of police, has been appointed by the inspector-general, Mohammed Adamu, to head the Complaint Response Unit (CRU).
Markus’ appointment comes days after Abayomi Shogunle, the former head was removed and redeployed in the heat of complaints by Nigerians about alleged abuse of human rights by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Frank Mba, the spokesperson of the force, announced the appointment of Markus saying he takes over from Shogunle.
According to him, the new head of the CRU resumed duty fully on Monday, May 13, 2019.
Before his appointment, ACP Markus Ishaku Basiran had held different positions within the force, some of which include; Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of zone 12 Bauchi; unit commander in the Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Abuja and Bayelsa; O/C research and planning, peacekeeping office, FHQ Abuja; O/C zonal intelligence bureau, Lokoja; area commander, Nkalagu, Ebonyi state.
According to the statement by Mba, ACP Markus attended the policy, strategy and leadership course at Kuru, Jos and the tactical intelligence command and management course in Enugu.
He is a graduate of sociology from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and holds a higher degree in crime management and prevention from Bayero University, Kano.
“ACP Markus is expected to use his wide field experience in refocusing the CRU on its core mandate of running a community oriented complaint management system using multi-platform reporting mechanism through which citizens’ complaints concerns and queries touching on professional police misconducts as well as malfeasance by members of the public can be reported and addressed in real-time via a 27/7 call centre at force headquarters, Abuja,” the statement said.

It added that the IGP Adamu, urged all members of the public to give the new CRU boss their full support, cooperation and all relevant information needed to effectively discharge his duty.
Legit.ng reported earlier that the inspector-general of police, Mohammed Adamu, ordered the redeployment of Abayomi Shogunle who is the head of Nigerian Police Force Complaint Response Unit (NPFCRU) to Nkalagu, Ebonyi state.
Shogunle’s transfer was with immediate effect on Friday, May 4 and that it may not be unconnected with his controversial social media comments.
