Nigerians in UK, US set up prayer vigils for Leah Sharibu on her 16th birthday

- Prayer vigils have been set up by hundreds of people at Nigeria’s mission house in the UK and US for the release of Leah Sharibu from Boko Haram captivity

- Leah would be marking her 16th birthday today, Tuesday, May 14, after spending 449 days in captivity

- The president of Leah Foundation, Gloria Samdi-Puldu, however, appealed to the federal government to honour its promise of freeing the girl from Boko Haram captivity

As part of the steps put in place to fast track the release of Leah Sharibu, one of the 110 girls abducted by Boko Haram, prayer vigils have been set up by hundreds of people at Nigeria’s mission house in the United Kingdom and United States.

There would also be an event at the US Senate building on Capitol Hill today, Tuesday, May 14, in Washington. Leah would be marking her 16th birthday today after spending 449 days in captivity, Vanguard reports.

A statement by the UK group said: “Please join us to pray and protest from 1-1: 30 pm, the address is: 9 Northumberland Ave, Westminster, London WC2N 5BX. You can still speak up for Leah now.”

There would be activities in Abuja, Jos, Lagos, Yola and Port Harcourt in addition to other events by Panam Music World, John Praise Foundation for Human Development and Mercy Ade-Davies International Foundation.

The pupils drawn from different schools called on the federal government to secure schools so that innocent children are not made to suffer for things they know nothing about.

The president of Leah Foundation, Gloria Samdi-Puldu, however, appealed to the federal government to honour its promises of freeing Leah from captivity.

Recall that Legit.ng reported that the Nigerian Senate urged the federal government to do everything to secure the release of Leah Sharibu, the last Dapchi schoolgirl still in the captivity of Boko Haram.

Senator Shehu Sani had on Thursday, April 11, raised a point of order during plenary, drawing the attention of the federal government to the continuous captivity of Leah.
