Mike Phelan has been confirmed Manchester United’s assistant manager on a three-year permanent deal beginning from the 2019-20 campaign.
According to a statement in the club’s official Twitter handle, the 56-year-old previously spent about spent 12 years in the club, with the last five years as assistant to legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Interestingly, Phelan was re-appointed alongside Ole Gunnar Solskjaer mid-December, but there were ‘confusion’ over his job specification at Old Trafford beyond May, with reports claiming he would be named technical director.
But on Friday, May 10, United confirmed via a press conference that Phelan has penned the dotted line and would be Solskjaer’s assistant on a permanent basis going forward.
Reacting after sealing the deal, who is excited over the deal sad: “I am thrilled to be back as Assistant Manager. Manchester United has been a huge part of my life since I joined as a player in 1989 and I am delighted to be able to continue that relationship in this key role.
“Since returning in December, I have enjoyed working with Ole, Michael, Kieran, Mark and Emilio and we are all focused on preparing for the new season,” Phelan stressed.
On the other hand, Solskjaer is thrilled working with Phelan, who he believes with help the club’s fortune with his experience.
“Mike is a great person to have around and has been invaluable to me since we returned in December. He brings a wealth of experience to this role with a long established connection to the club.

“We have a good group of coaching staff and we are already working on the challenges that lie ahead as we plan for the new season and the future beyond,” the Norwegian summed up.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Man United are set to seal a £15m deal for Daniel James from Swansea City in the coming days.
According to Daily Express report citing Sky Sports News sources, James has enjoyed a decent season under Graham Potter, attracting a number of top Premier League clubs.
However, it seems United have won the race for his signature, with the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tutored-side closing in on a deal valued at £15m to make the Welshman his first summer signing.
