The Nigerian government on Thursday, May 9, said it has concluded plans to ensure the independence of the legislature and the judiciary in all states including the Federal Capital Territory.
The senior special assistant to the president on National Assembly matters (Senate), Ita Enang, while addressing journalists on the activities of the Presidential Implementation Committee on the Autonomy of State Legislature and State Judiciary said there would be a retreat at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa to deliberate and articulate an effective national implementation strategy in the matter.
The committee chaired by the minister of justice and attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami, whole Enang is the .secretary.
According to Enang, the retreat would hold between May 16 and 17 this year.
He also said the committee has concluded its assignment and discovered that there is spending on the Legislature and the Judiciary and for the Legislature and Judiciary.
He said the purpose of the retreat is to ensure that the full import and purpose of the constitution which is release of sums due to the Legislature and the Judiciary to the heads of these arms of government to be disbursed and applied by them in accordance with approved budget.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the lawmaker representing Chanchaga federal constituency in Niger state, Umar Bago, has assured legislature's independence at the 9th Assembly.
