...And his name is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor
If nothing else, the announcement of the name chosen for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal son has caused many to gasp in surprise. In fact, quite a number of people have been thrown off balance by the rarity of the name revealed on Wednesday.
The unique name Archie Harrison is one that is considered quite unique and surprising because when compared to the top potential names given to British royal children (names like Arthur, James, Philip, Albert), it does not exactly stand a chance.
Strange as these names may be, they hold very special meanings which is bound to swoon anyone who is acquainted with them. For one, the name Archie is a shortened version of Archibald which literally means genuine, bold and brave.
The fact that the couple did not exactly spell out the name in full but opted for the casual, shortened form gives it an informal edginess which is reflective of the American heritage of the wife and the global perspective embraced by the husband.
Harrison, on the other hand, translates to Harry's son. It is a name that originates in the Middle Ages and patronymically means "son of Harry" or "son of Henry." Given that Prince Harry's full title is Henry Charles Albert David, this is very applicable.
The surname Mountbatten-Windsor is the one normally given to all the descendants of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Quite a number of people have jokingly argued that Harry and Meghan might be huge fans of the CW series Riverdale in which a phenomenal red-headed comic book character Archie Andrews (played by KJ Apa) was featured.
But then, there are way too many famous and well renowned Archies that the royal couple could have been fans of. For one, there is Archie Moore, an American boxer known for being the longest-reigning World List Heavyweight Champion of all time.
Again, there is Archie Manning, a former NFL quarterback and father to football sensations Eli and Peyton Manning. Archie Griffin is another great one; he is the only football player to win the Hesiman Trophy twice. Even a popular female actress named Archie Panjabi makes this list.
During their first appearance with their baby in St. George's Hall, Windsor, Meghan, who has now practically become a doting mother had this to say: “It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing. I have the best two guys in the world, so I’m really happy. He has the sweetest temperament. He’s really calm.”
When asked if they know the baby takes after, Prince Harry said this: "Everyone says babies change so much over two weeks. We’re basically monitoring how the changing process happens over this next month, really. His looks are changing every single day, so who knows?”
Recently, it was rumoured that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are likely to come stay in Africa for a while.
