The rampant cases of criminalities, killings and kidnappings in the country have been referred to by the chief Imam of the state house mosque, Sheik Abdulwaheed Sulaiman, as test from God.
Sulaiman said that in order to avert the ugly trend, Nigerians should repent from their sins and pray to God, The Cable reports.
Reporting the imam's speech, Garba Shehu, special adviser to the President Muhammadu Buhari, said that Sulaiman “gave thanks to Almighty Allah for allowing the general election to take place peacefully throughout the country”.
“He called for repentance and prayers to avert the current security challenges confronting the nation. He said the security incidents are a test from God.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday, May 8, said Nigeria needed three things to help it meet its current challenges.
Atiku listed the three as fasting, prayer and justice just as he quoted a verse of the Quran concerning fasting by believers in Islam.
