- A gang of gunmen has attacked the Balle community in Gudu local government area of Sokoto state
- The gunmen in the attack killed the district head, Aliyu Ibrahim, after burning some police patrol vans
- The assailants who are reportedly natives of Niger Republic also burnt down the police station in the community
The Balle community in Gudu local government area of Sokoto state was on Tuesday, May 7, greeted with terror when a gang of gunmen stormed it, killing its traditional ruler, Aliyu Ibrahim, Premium Times reports.

An eyewitness revealed to newsmen that the gang after burning down the police station and patrol vans in Balle, went ahead to Ibrahim's palace and shot him dead.
The eyewitness said: “The gunmen, upon arrival to the emir’s palace, found the compound gate was locked. They, however, jumped through the fence while others were stationed outside. After killing the district head, they rode their motorcycles and fled."

The source further said that the gunmen were natives of Niger Republic who came only to the district head on revenge mission days after he allegedly reported their activities to the police.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that some youths in Sokoto state under the auspices of Concerned Sokoto State Youths had called for the immediate arrest of the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over alleged threat of violence ahead of the governorship election in the state.
The PDP chairman allegedly directed his party’s supporters to instantly kill any permanent secretary or director in the state civil service trying to manipulate result in favour of the opposition party in the state.
