- The APC governorship candidate in Zamfara, Mukhtar Idris, reportedly attended the induction for new and returning governors-elect
- Idris' candidacy had earlier been nullified by the appeal court and he could not be recognised as a governor-elect
- The APC and its candidate have appealed the matter at the Supreme Court
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the last election in Zamfara state Mukhtar Idris reportedly attended the recently concluded induction for new and returning governors-elect.
He was among the participants at the three-day event organised by the Nigerian Governors Forum, (NGF) at the Aso Rock Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, Premium Times reports.
However, it should be recalled that his candidacy had been nullified by the appeal court, and based on the ruling, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refused to issue a certificate of return to him.
Although Idris and the APC has appealed the matter at the Supreme Court, however, based on the appeal court verdict, Idris could not be recognised as a governor-elect.
Legit.ng had reported that the APC governorship candidate asked INEC to release his certificate of return. Idris having been declared the winner of the March 9, 2019, governorship election in the state also urged INEC to release the certificate of return of all the members of the Zamfara state's House of Assembly.
The electoral body had withheld the certificate of return of the governor-elect and other members of the state's House of Assembly-elect, following the judgement of the Court of Appeal division in Sokoto state.
