The authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has confirmed the release of a lecturer, Professor Olayinka Adegbehingbe, who was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen on the evening of Sunday, May 5.
Daily Trust reports that the public relations officer of the university, Abiodun Olanrewaju, confirmed that the professor had regained his freedom.
Olanrewaju said the university management was grateful to the general public for their support, love and concerns following the abduction of the professor.
He said: “The University Management hereby express her appreciation to the general public for their support, love and concerns. OAU management also thanked the officers and men of the Osun state command of the Nigeria police, particularly the police commissioner, for their prompt response and professionalism."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that some gunmen on Sunday, May 5, kidnapped Professor Adegbehingbe who is a lecturer and staff of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. It was reported that Adegbehingbe was kidnapped along the Ife/Ibadan Expressway.
Adegbehingbe was said to have been abducted near Ikire, few minutes to 9 pm while traveling to Ife.
Also, some other vehicles that were moving along the route when the incident happened were said to have to stopped because the gunmen wielding sophisticated weapons, partially blocked the road.
