- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says playing in the Europa League next season is good for Manchester United
- The Red Devils were condemned to competing in the UEFA second tier championship after being held to a 1-1 draw by Huddersfield
- United will wrap their season up at Old Trafford against relegation bound Cardiff City this weekend
Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has admitted the Europa League is the perfect tournament for the club to compete in next season.
United were forced to a 1-1 draw by already relegated Huddersfield on Sunday, May 5, to end the Red Devils' slim chances of qualifying for the Champions League.
Speaking in his post-match conference, Solskjaer acknowledged his side will now face a difficult start to the season should they enter the qualifying stages of the Europa League.
United could earn an automatic qualification to Europa League should they leapfrog Arsenal to fifth if the Gunners lose their last league match against Burnley and win theirs against Cardiff.
However, the Manchester outfit could be forced into playing a Europa League qualification match should Man City fail to win the FA Cup against Watford, a fact Solskjaer is alive to.
"That was always a possibility. It's been in our mind, we gave ourselves a chance to be in Champions League, something we didn't think would be possible. We had so many opportunities to grab third or fourth and weren't able to," the Norwegian was quoted saying.
"So it's probably the right place to be for us, Europa League next year and if City don't win the FA Cup we'll have an early and bright start for Europa League qualifiers and that'll make it more difficult," he added.
United will now be hoping to win the Europa League title once again, having won it two years ago under Jose Mourinho.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester United fans mocked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following his side's failure to win any of their last five matches in all competitions.
The supporters believe the club made a terrible mistake hiring the Norwegian on a permanent basis following their ouster from the Champions League, and also inability to make top four.
Solskjaer was impressive foe the club when he took over from Jose Mourinho six months ago, but his recent results are nothing to delight any of the club's fans.
