Kaduna dry port to begin cargo delivery service

- The federal government has concluded plans to concluded plans to begin cargo delivery service by rail to Kaduna

- The launch programme of the service will be held on Tuesday, May 7, at the facility's premises in Kakuri

- The governor of the state, Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai and the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, will be present at the flag-ship ceremony

The federal government has finished plans to commence cargo delivery service by rail to the Kaduna Inland Dry Port this Tuesday, May 7.

At the launch programme of the service which will hold on Tuesday, May 7, at the facility’s premises in Kakuri, Kaduna the governor of Kaduna State, Mallam, Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai and the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi will be at the event, Daily Trust reports.

In a statement signed by Tahir H. Idris, the special assistant to the executive secretary to the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), the promoter of the dry ports across the country, the council said after the flag-off event, there will be an interactive session with all relevant stakeholders.

The stakeholders’ interactive programme/clinic will also feature presentations on the following various topics.

Hassan Bello, the executive secretary to NSC said so much cargo comes to the sate and it involves so much money for transporting on trucks

He said: “So much cargo is coming to Kaduna now but on trucks. It takes so much money to transport goods by trucks from Lagos to Kaduna. If it is by rail, the cost will drop by over 60 percent."

The secretary also said the rail service will the rail service will reduce goods tampering, loads diversions, and above all keep accident down by 95%.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the federal government inspected 64 coaches under construction in China for the various rail projects in Nigeria with 10 coaches to be delivered in June for Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor.

The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, led a delegation to China to inspect the level of work at the Chinese Railway Rolling-stock Corporation (CRRC) Tangshan Co Ltd in China.
