- Chelsea vs Watford ended 3-0 in favour of the Blues as Loftus-Cheek, David Luiz and Gonzalo Higuain scored a goal each in the second half
- The important victory saw the Blues move to third on the Premier League standings
- They however suffered an injury blow in N'Golo Kante who was forced off in the first half
Chelsea had to wait until the second half to secure a 3-0 win over Watford in a tough Premier League clash played at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, May 5.
Goals from Loftus-Cheek, David Luiz and Gonzalo Higuian were the difference, with the victory cementing the Blues' impressive home record over the Hornets.
The first half of the encounter ended in a barren draw, with both sides squandering goal scoring chances in the opening exchanges.
Loftus-Cheek, who came on for N'Golo Kante broke the deadlock with a powerful header just three minutes after the break, having benefited from an Eden Hazard assist.
Luiz doubled the lead in the 51st minute thanks to Hazard's swinging corner that the Brazilian powered to the back of the net.
Gonzalo Higuian ended his goal drought in the 75th minute after Pedro played him in behind, with the striker making no mistake as he lifted the ball neatly over the advancing Ben Foster.
The visitors nearly pulled one back two minutes later through Holebas but his effort hit the crossbar.
The hosts eventually carted away all the points to march to a 3-0 win over their opponents.
The victory effectively cements the Blues' hopes of finishing in the top four as they leapfrogged Tottenham Hotspur to third with 71 points.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard has urged club chiefs to respect their earlier agreement and allow him complete a switch to Real Madrid this summer.
According to Metro citing UK Sun, Hazard was eager to seal a move to the Los Blancos after last year’s summer World Cup in Russia, but club boss Maurizio Sarri talked him into accepting one more season at Stamford Bridge.
