He stole the show: Nigerians remember Yar'Adua 9 years after

Late Umaru Musa Yar’adua (August 16, 1951 - May 5, 2010) was the 13th president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was declared winner of the controversial presidential election which held on April 21, 2007.

Sworn in on May 29, 2007, Yar’Adua spent three years in power battling with his health challenges until death eventually won the battle.

Today, Sunday, May 5, marks the 9th year of his passing and Legit.ng has compiled some of the most touching tributes to the late president.

Former president Goodluck Jonathan had earlier paid a glowing tribute to his former boss, Yar’Adua.

In a moving eulogy to the former president on Facebook, Jonathan described the late Yar'Adua as a selfless leader who placed national interest above personal and ethnic gains.

Jonathan said Yar'Adua will always be remembered and celebrated for the works that he had done, democracy he loved, democracy he nurtured and for his service to the nation.
