- Manchester United have handed David De Gea a week grace to decide on new contract
- The Spanish shot-stopper has been offered a contract extension worth £350,000-a-week
- De Gea's present contract will run out in the summer of 2020
Manchester United have issued a deadline to David De Gea to make a decision if he will remain at Old Trafford going forward.
According to Daily Mail citing The Sun, the Spanish goalkeeper’s present deal at the Theater of Dreams expires in the summer of 2020, but has been offered a £350,000-a-weekly contract extension.
The Red Devils eggheads are eager to have the shot-stopper sort out his future at the club.
De Gea has been one of the top shot-stoppers in world football, but in recent time has committed high-profile errors this campaign, the latest occurred during United 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Old Trafford last weekend.
As well as the school-boy mistakes he committed against the trio of Everton, Barcelona and Arsenal.
At the moment, it is still uncertain where the Spaniard will be playing his football next season, and to a large extent it is beginning to have an effect in his game.
De Gea is expected to start between the sticks for United in their away fixture against Huddersfield on Sunday, May 5, with second-choice Sergio Romero out of the game with a knee injury.
Club boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is backing the 28-year-old De Gea to rediscover his ‘A’ game during the Premier League contest.
“Of course we do (trust him), he's been fantastic this season. We're coming towards the end now. He's been in headlines for the wrong reasons but he has to deal with that.
“The goalkeeping department are fantastic, with Emilio (Alvarez), Sergio (Romero), Lee (Grant) and David. They're a tight-knit group. They've experienced better times than just now but he's ready for Sunday,” Solskjaer added.
At the last count, De Gea has kept just seven clean sheets after 36 Premier League games, conceding 51 times this campaign.
On the other hand, the Red Devils have let in more goals than others in the top six this term, with De Gea‘s form not helping United's unguarded defence.
De Gea has made 360 appearances for United since arriving in 2011, and has won the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Europa League and the League Cup.
United are three points adrift of Chelsea at fourth spot in the EPL log ahead of today’s game against Huddersfield.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that David De Gea has warned he will not sign a new £350,000-a-week deal at Manchester United unless the Old Trafford giants qualify for next season Champions League.
The UK Sun citing MEN, revealed that the 28-year-old shot-stopper, who is rated as one of the world's best and has performed excellently as the last man in defence for the Red Devils severally since Sir Alex Ferguson’s exit in 2013.
However, the Spaniard is set to quit the Theater of Dreams next summer, after his present deal he penned in September 2015 expires.
