Two second half goals from Maxi Gomez and Aspas was all Celta Vigo needed to beat newly crowned La Liga champions Barcelona 2-0 on Saturday night, May 4, at Abanca-Balaídos.

The encounter saw the home-side start on the front-foot as Ernesto Valverde made 11 changes to his squad ahead of the revere fixture of their Champions League tie against Liverpool.

Ousmane Dembele suffered what looked like a muscle injury in the sixth minute and was replaced by highly-rated youngster Alex Collado.

After the restart, Barca were lacking cohesion with the home-side asking questions, but goal scoring chances were hard to come by.

And despite the few goal scoring moments created none of the teams could score at the end of the first half.

In the second half, the home-side started on a fast note as they pushed Barcelona hard for the needed opener, with a VAR decision needed to cancel Celta Vigo’s 49th minute goal.

However, few minutes later, Gomez applied a first-time finish from a decent cross from…..to score the opening goal of the match.

Barca were beginning to come into the contest as the game entered the closing moments , but a fast counter-attack from Celta saw Umtiti concede a late penalty that also needed VAR decision.

And Iago Aspas took responsibility to net from the spot in the 89th minute to see Celta go two goals up.

Despite other scoring opportunities, no other goals were scored as the scoreboard read Celta Vigo 2-0 Barcelona at the blat of the final whistle.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Arthur Melo, Barcelona midfielder, suffered losses on Wednesday night, May 1, after two armed housebreakers broke into his house and threatened his brother with a machete while he was away at Camp Nou.

According to UK Sun report, the incident took place during Barca’s 3-0 Champions League semi-final victory over the Reds, with the Brazilian midfielder on the bench.

The buglers were said to have carted away cash and other valuables which include jewellery and a Rolex watch.
