- The ex-Man United boss has been given a three year deal to work in Rome

The Portuguese gaffer has been out of work since he was sacked by Manchester United last December.

But the former Chelsea manager is still highly favoured to make a return to Italy after a successful spell with Inter Milan.

And according to French news media outlet L'Equipe, Roma have made a three-year offer to tempt him back into management.

The Giallorossi sacked Eusebio Di Francesco earlier this season, while Claudio Ranieri is currently in charge until the end of the campaign.

Mourinho has already revealed he will return to management in the summer - and he could be backed by new investment from oil-rich nation Qatar, to help push the club forward.

Roma are currently fifth in Serie A, a point behind Atalanta in the last Champions League spot which could prove a stumbling block for Mourinho's arrival.

And another Qatari-owned side Paris Saint-Germain have been long-time admirers of Mourinho and could still move for the Portuguese if they decide to sack Thomas Tuchel.

L'Equipe claim that PSG's mega rich owners are linked with investment in Roma - meaning that if Tuchel stays in Paris they can still move for Mourinho.

And the Qatar Sports Investments could give Mourinho the financial backing he would want in Rome.

The state-owned sports investment company have close links with beIN media group - where Mourinho currently works as a pundit.
