Tears as family, friends bid ex-House of Reps member Olatoye Sugar farewell

- Members of Oyo state House of Assembly have paid tribute to former House of Reps member, Olatoye Sugar

- Sugar was killed by unknown gunmen during the governorship election held in the state on Saturday, March 9

- The speaker of Oyo House of Assembly noted that Sugar contributed his quota towards the development of the community, state and Nigeria as a whole

Tears rolled freely on Thursday, May 2, as the family, friends and associates of late member of House of Representatives, Olatoye Temitope Sugar, paid the slain federal lawmaker last tribute.

Legit.ng's regional reporter in Oyo, Imran Khalid, reports that the remains of Sugar was laid at the House of chiefs, Oyo state House of Assembly complex, secretariat, Ibadan for paying of last respect and commencement of the activities lined up for his funeral ceremony.

It was gathered that the mood at the event was mournful as the deceased's family, legislators and associates could not hold back their tears.

In their encomiums, the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Ojo Joshua Olagunju and other lawmakers described the deceased as lover of downtrodden in the society, stressing that he was a colossus of monumental dimension who used his lifetime to help the poor and raise the less privileged ones.

The speaker said the late lawmaker who was once a member of the state House of Assembly between 2011- 2015, had contributed his quota towards the development of the community, state and Nigeria as a whole.

A second term member representing Ibadan north II, in the House, Olusegun Olaleye Radical, eulogised the late lawmaker and pledged scholarship up to university level for two children of the deceased.

The younger brother of the deceased, Dotun Olatoye, called on the government at all levels to ensure the killers of his late brother were arrested and brought to justice.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, denied claims that he was manipulating investigation into the murder of Olatoye Temitope also known as sugar.
