The Katsina police command has confirmed that its officer, an inspector Muntari Maikudi attached to Kusada division has been shot by abductors of Magajin Garin Daura, President Muhammadu Buhari's in-law.
Daily Sun reports that the command said its patrol teams at the division engaged the abductors in a gun duel that led to the shooting of Maikudi.
Gambo Isah, the spokesman of the command, in a statement, said the police officer sustained a gunshot injury and was rushed to Federal Medical Center Katsina for treatment.
Isah said IGP Tactical Squad, SARS teams, PMF and counter terrorism units have already been despatched to rescue the victim alive and safely to his family.
The statement read: “The command enjoins members of the public to always assist the security agencies with timely and actionable intelligence on the activities of these bandits.
"Be rest assured that the command and indeed other security agencies are on their toes to bring to an end the activities of these bandits”
"The commissioner of police, Katsina state command, CP Sanusi Buba, psc, along with police patrol teams immediately arrived at the scene."
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Alhaji Musa Umar, the district head of Daura in Katsina state was kidnapped by gunmen on the evening of Wednesday, May 1.
The kidnappers arrived in his Daura residence at 7p.m and engaged in sporadic shooting, thereby making people of the area to scamper for safety.
