- APC has told Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, that Nigeria is bigger than him
- Nigeria ruling party was responding to Adebanjo's vow not to recognise Buhari as president-elect
- The party said the Afenifere leader cannot decide for Nigerians who used their cards in electing the president
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has on Wednesday, May 1, replied Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who said he cannot regard President Muhammadu Buhari as the president-elect of the country.
The APC said Nigeria was bigger than Chief Ayo Adebanjo and that he could not, under the circumstances, determine for Nigerians who they wanted as their president, Independent reports.
“His will cannot stand against the will of Nigerians. Nigerians have spoken through the ballot. They used their voter cards in electing who they desire as president, and President Muhammadu Buhari was adjudged by the electoral umpire, INEC, as the choice of the majority.
“But he (Adebanjo) has been saying no, that he will not recognise the president. That can only be binding on him and his family members. Nigeria is bigger than him,” Yekini Nabena, deputy national publicity secretary of the APC said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that leader of pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Adebanjo, declared that he would not recognise President Buhari as president-elect of Nigeria because the 2019 presidential election that produced him was a farce.
The elder statesman expressed optimism that Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), would reclaim his mandate at the court.
