Jigawa court sentence kidnapper to death, free alleged accomplices

- A state high court in Jigawa on Tuesday, April 30, sentenced a Datti Buba to death for kidnapping and hom*icide

- Dati Buba claimed he committed the offences with two other people but the court acquitted them of all charges

- In addition to his death sentence, Buba got got five years imprisonment for conspiracy and 10 years for abduction

A state high court in Dutse, Jigawa state, on Tuesday, April 30, sentenced a 39-year-old man to death after convicting him of kidnapping and culpable hom*icide.

The court found Datti Buba, a resident of Giade local government area in Bauchi state, guilty of kidnapping and also the killing of two people he abducted, Premium Times reports.

The state had earlier charged him to court on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, and culpable hom*icide.

The presiding judge, Ubale Ahmed, therefore sentenced Buba to death by hanging for killing two of his victims in Jigawa.

Buba also confessed before his sentence that he and two others, Adamu Sabo and Usman Idris, both in Bauchi State, carried out the atrocities.

The court, however, freed the other two suspects of the charges, while adding that Buba's offence were against sections 97, 221, and 273 of the Penal Code.

In addition to his death sentence, Buba got five years imprisonment for criminal conspiracy and 10 years for kidnapping.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the police force headquarters in Abuja announced the arrest of one of the suspects responsible for the kidnapping of the chairman of UBEC, Dr Mohammed Mahmoud Abubakar, and his daughter, Yesmin Mohammed.

The father and daughter who were kidnapped on Monday, April 29, along the Abuja-Kaduna highway have since been released and undergoing medical investigations in an undisclosed hospital.

The Force public relations officer, Frank Mba, said one suspect had been arrested in connection with the kidnapping, while investigations were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
