N’Assembly finally passes 2019 budget, increases it by N86bn

The senate on Tuesday, April 30, passed a sum of N8.916 trillion as estimates for the 2019 budget as against N8.83 trillion earlier proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The disclosure was made by Senate president Bukola Saraki, who expressed his gratitude to lawmakers for meeting deadline in passing the bill.

Legit.ng notes that Saraki said: “I hope that with this Budget passed, the Executive will also ensure the full implementation of the Budget for the benefit of Nigerians as a whole.

“I want to thank our colleagues, particularly for their understanding and for us to be able to meet todays deadline in passing the Bill and thank the committee on appropriation too."

Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigerian Senate has postponed its consideration of the 2019 budget to next week due to non-availability of details.

The Senate committee on appropriation headed by Senator Danjuma Goje, had on Thursday, April 18, laid the budget report on the floor of the Senate.

However, on Wednesday, April 24, when the budget consideration and passage was listed on the Senate Order Paper, it was observed that there were no printed copies of the budget report.

It was also observed that both Goje and his deputy, Senator Sunny Ogbouji (APC, Ebonyi), were not on the floor.
